Wine hotels tucked away in the countryside

Istria has some splendid options when it comes to boutique accommodation. An old stanzia [/ˈstan.t͡sja/, the archaic local term for a farm estate entirely made of stone] that is renovated and transformed into chic establishments with a limited number of rooms, a wine cellar, and a pool, usually encompassed by olive groves, orchards, and vineyards for a unique view and feel. The best part might be the restaurants on the premises with the best wine-pairing experiences serving local fare!

Foodie-forward adventures

Break bread with your loved ones after an interactive session of truffle hunting, olive oil tasting, or a vinery showcase. Could be a visit to a cheese farm as well! The local folks are extremely proud of their heritage and the harmonious balance with nature in serving the local community and curious travelers. Hear stories that will transport you in time about the tradition that traces back to the early settlers of the peninsula. Istria is the Croatian region with over twenty restaurants listed in the MICHELIN guide, three of which have earned a star.

The art of the stroll

Wander the streets of towns and villages; quaint, artistic, and charming. From hilltop Groznjan and Motovnun in the heart of Istria, to the breathtaking coastal Rovinj to the west, and finally Pula at the tip of the peninsula with its preserved 2000 year old colosseum. Visit the unique archipelago full of curiosities, Brijuni islands, home to a safari park with exotic animals, dinosaur prints, a 1600 year old olive oil tree, malaria eradication trials - all while being the most popular destination for the Viennese upper class.

“And while the Istrian truffle is premium grade, its culture is free of snobbery, intrigue and astronomical prices found in Piedmont or the Perigord region of France"
